Family Days

Loved ones often find eating disorders difficult to understand and accept. There is nothing more difficult than watching a loved one struggle with illness, particularly an illness that takes control of the mind as well as the body and causes extreme disturbances in an individual’s behaviors and feelings. Whole families are affected by eating disorders, and everyone deserves support. In addition to our comprehensive, personalized treatment programs for patients, Eating Recovery Center offers programming to help educate, support and care for families of eating disordered patients.

Family Days is a three-day event, offered one time per month at Eating Recovery Center’s Denver-based treatment facilities. Families of patients may attend Family Days as many times as they would like, even after their loved one has discharged from treatment. Family Days is an invaluable opportunity to learn about and be involved in the recovery process, and addresses the following topics:

• What are eating disorders?
• What causes versus what maintains an eating disorder?
• What does recovery look like?
• What is Eating Recovery Center doing to aid in recovery?
• What is the role of family in recovery?
• In what ways can families communicate to promote healthy interaction?

Testimonials

“ERC offers a complete program by utilizing a variety of services: inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and residential. I am impressed by the treatment given to eating disorder clients that includes tracking “temperament” and “character.” DBT seems to leave out many factors including self-directedness. After hearing Dr. Bishop speak [about ERC treatment philosophies], I am motivated to learn more about ACT. “
