Life After Treatment
Often times, the hardest work begins when treatment ends. That’s why Eating Recovery Center’s treatment programming is designed with life after treatment in mind. The step-down model of care—which includes Inpatient, Residential, Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient and Outpatient programs—emphasizes learning, practicing and building confidence in your recovery skills in structured, supportive environment prior to stepping down to a level of care with more autonomy and less supervision. Individual, family and group therapies offer support and education to help prepare you to face the challenges you are likely to encounter outside of treatment, whether it’s a family dinner or a trip to the grocery store, and helps you to identify personal and recovery-focused goals.
Additionally, recovery-focused post-treatment planning is vital to continued recovery. During your time with Eating Recovery Center, the treatment team works closely with Aftercare Coordinators to develop an individualized aftercare plan that acknowledges your specific recovery needs and challenges. The sole focus of Aftercare Coordinators is facilitating a seamless return home and ensuring continuity of care. Aftercare Coordinators participate in daily treatment team meetings for clarification of what kind of treatment patients may need at home, and they are constantly aware of the discharge timetable.
If you plan to return to your previous treatment providers, the Aftercare Coordinator will make post-discharge appointments on your behalf, and ensure that the providers have full information regarding the treatment you received at Eating Recovery Center and an understanding of the discharge plan. Aftercare Coordinators can also assemble new or bolster existing outpatient treatment teams from a national network of trusted clinicians that have familiarity with Eating Recovery Center’s recovery approach. Follow-ups are conducted with each patient within two weeks of discharge to see if the discharge plan is working, at which time the Aftercare Coordinator can help make necessary adjustments to meet your recovery needs.
There is overwhelming clinical consensus that favorable treatment outcomes are highly correlated with positive relationships. In addition to your post-discharge “plan of action,” Eating Recovery Center’s aftercare planning also involves maintaining and nurturing connections with others through ongoing support and programming for alumni. A weekly Aftercare Recovery Process Group is offered to support patients transitioning to the outpatient level of care and residing in the Denver area, and an annual Alumni Retreat is held to help maintain and rejuvenate recovery. Additionally, Eating Recovery Center offers your family the opportunity to attend Family Days free of cost as many times as they need to continually educate themselves on how to support you in your recovery.
