Partial Hospitalization Program

Eating Recovery Center’s Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers the intensity and structure of residential eating disorders treatment while providing opportunities to practice recovery outside of the controlled treatment environment during evenings at home or in peer-supported apartment communities.

Where most partial hospitalization programs for the treatment of eating disorders are comprised of 6-8 hours of programming offered 5-7 days per week, Eating Recovery Center’s PHP provides 11.5 hours of treatment 7 days per week. By offering a full day of programming every day of the week, patients are supported through all meals and snacks and have ample structure and containment to achieve symptom interruption and/or weight restoration. Combined with daytime medical support, the strategic intensity of Eating Recovery Center’s PHP can provide a non-residential treatment resource for individuals requiring a higher level of care.

Eating Recovery Center’s Partial Hospitalization Program emphasizes the development of lifelong recovery skills in a safe, structured and supportive environment. PHP’s well-rounded curriculum offers staff-supported opportunities to practice for interactions and challenges outside of treatment through interactive group sessions, including:

Patients can practice recovery skills during overnight stays at home or in Eating Recovery Center apartment residence communities, which provide a peer-supported living environment for out-of-town patients or those that prefer a recovery-focused lodging option near the treatment center.

Eating Recovery Center’s PHP is a critical stage of the full continuum of care in eating disorders recovery, representing a step-down from Inpatient and Residential levels of care and a precursor to Outpatient treatment. Because PHP focuses heavily on preparing patients for the transition home and relapse training, the two weeks prior to discharge are termed Transitional Intensive Outpatient Program (TIOP). The TIOP phase is an excellent way for local patients to begin the reentry into their home life by offering a time-limited practice stage for life after treatment. While reintegrating back to school, work or a structured home environment, they will still have the support of their current treatment team and have access to four hours of daily programming, including one meal. When patients are challenged and/or experiencing slips with their eating disorder, the treatment team is available and seeks to understand what elements needs to be in place to help for successful recovery. Because patients begin working with their outpatient team and their Eating Recovery Center team together, TIOP helps to facilitate coordination of aftercare.

Testimonials

“The programs, but more importantly, the people at ERC helped me to see that I do indeed deserve to be happy and can be happy. They loved me when I felt unlovable. They cared for me until I could start to care for myself again. They gently but firmly challenged me, and most of all, they had faith in me that I could succeed in this fight. For that I will always be more than grateful.”
