Before starting your New Year’s diet, you’ll want to check out this episode as we dip our toes into the world of Christie Dondero Bettwy. After a long history of dieting to get others’ approval and falling into an eating disorder, she is fighting back against assumptions that hurt far more people than they help.
Along the way, we also speak with nutritionist Dr. Ralph Carson about what really happens to your body when you diet (and why they never seem to work…)
Christie Dondero Bettwy serves as Executive Director for Rock Recovery, a Washington, DC based nonprofit that combines clinical and community support to help people find freedom from disordered eating and body image issues. Having overcome an eating disorder herself, Christie understands the ups and downs of the recovery journey and the depth of emotional, clinical, and spiritual support needed to heal. She is passionate about spreading the message that complete freedom from disordered eating is possible and loves helping others experience the joys of life beyond an eating disorder. Christie enjoys going on adventures near and far with her husband Ryan, visiting her family (especially her nieces and nephews!), taking in all of the wonderful food and culture that DC has to offer, and spending time with her church family at Restoration Anglican Church.

I am scared of all things that live in the ocean (that aren't mammals).
I'm obsessed with the movie the Muppet Christmas Carol and watch it year-round.
I firmly believe The Vampire Diaries is the best show that was ever on television.
