The only national health care system dedicated to the treatment of serious eating disorders at all levels of care.
When it comes to lasting recovery for you, your loved one or your patient, the expertise of the treatment team is of critical importance.
Eating Recovery Center brings together a team of compassionate experts with robust experience in assessment of and intervention for eating disorders that recognize that the true challenge to sustainable recovery occurs outside the treatment environment and following discharge.
As a result, Eating Recovery Center’s treatment philosophy is rooted in not only individualized assessment and clinical intervention for eating disorders, but also aftercare planning. The multidisciplinary treatment team collaborates with patients, families and outpatient professionals to develop a post-discharge plan of care that addresses each patient’s distinctive medical, psychological and situational challenges to protect their recovery.
Comprehensive Levels of Care
Eating Recovery Center is one of the very few treatment centers to offer the full spectrum of recovery services for female and male adults, adolescents and children at its four Denver facilities and across it’s national network of partners. The availability of comprehensive recovery services provides valuable continuity of care for the patients, families and referring professionals, and the integration among these levels of care fosters consistency of the treatment approach as patients move toward lasting recovery. Moreover, this treatment model offers meaningful opportunities to evaluate recovery in a supportive environment, and identify and address challenges to sustainable recovery prior to discharge.
Expertise in Treating Comorbid Conditions and Dual Diagnoses
Two-thirds of patients admitted to eating disorders treatment programs will also meet diagnosis criteria for depression and anxiety—for half of these patients, the depression and anxiety predated the onset of the eating disorder, indicating that the mood disorder may be the primary illness. 40% percent of patients seeking eating disorders treatment will meet criteria for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and 25% for substance abuse problems. The clinical staff at Eating Recovery Center is trained in the diagnosis and treatment of these co-occurring illnesses, and programs are designed to address eating disorders as they occur with psychiatric disorders including anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression and addiction, as well as medical conditions including diabetes and gastrointestinal illness. Specialized tracks are also available to address eating disorder symptoms and behaviors among elite athletes. Eating Recovery Center’s team of multidisciplinary experts also has vast experience in the treatment of eating disorders among high-profile patients, and has developed strict protocols to support the recovery of these patients while in treatment at our facilities.
Family Involvement in Treatment
Eating disorders don’t just affect individuals—they affect whole families, and often times, “it takes a village” for patients to achieve lasting recovery. Family involvement in treatment programming seeks to educate loved ones about these illnesses and how best to support patients following treatment. While the goals of family involvement vary depending on the patient’s individualized treatment plans, weekly contact generally involves progress updates or family therapy sessions. Another unique facet of family involvement at Eating Recovery Center is the monthly educational program, Family Days. Across three days in Denver, Colorado, families learn about eating disorder recovery from senior clinical staff and participate in multifamily and individual family therapy.
