According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about one in ten people age 18 and older have a mood disorder, and 40 million American adults have some type of anxiety disorder every year. Mental health advocates around the globe are breaking the stigma around talking about mental health, including Colorado Public Radio host and reporter Vic Vela.

After suffering from addiction for 15 years, Vela found recovery in 2015. To help guide the conversation, Vela is launching “Back From Broken,” a podcast dedicated to recovery stories. CPR says that podcast is “a place to regularly showcase courage and what it takes to come back." Eating Recovery Center and Insight Mood & Anxiety Center are proud to sponsor all 10 upcoming episodes of “Back From Broken,” which premieres today, February 21, 2020.

Mental Health America reports that Colorado had the third highest rate of mental illness in 2018 alone. Around 20 percent of Colorado’s adults are touched by mental illness, and 54 percent of those sufferers do not receive treatment. Seeing the need for mental health treatment in the state of Colorado, Insight Mood & Anxiety Center recently opened its first mental health treatment centers in Denver.

“Our patients can expect to find a treatment experience that enables the attainment of long-lasting recovery and emotional wellness,” explains Susan McClanahan, PhD, Insight founder and nationally recognized expert psychologist. “We offer a four-part journey: First, we help guide patients into the appropriate level of care. We then design personal recovery plans and empower their support system, providing patients and their networks with tools that form the foundation of their recovery. Finally, we’re dedicated to supporting our patients throughout their ongoing recovery, even after they’ve left our care.”

Insight Denver is currently accepting patients into its adult Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient programs (IOP), as well as accepting patients ages 12-17 into its child and adolescent PHP and IOP programs. On Wednesday, February 19, Insight celebrated a brand-new 24-bed Residential program dedicated to children and teens in need of 24-hour care, which is scheduled to open in March 2020.

Vic Vela made a special guest appearance to discuss his personal struggle with mental health, as well as provided an overview of “Back From Broken” during this special open house event.
