While Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has been open out her struggles with food addiction, she recently confessed that she was bulimic
so she could be as “beautiful and thin” as Princess Diana.
During an interview on the Unlock Your Health podcast
she said, “To wish you could have a mental illness to that level is a very serious place to get to.”
“I was a binge eater
,” she continued. “I never could get bulimia because I just didn’t have that mental state to go that far, but I always wished I could. But that just shows you how dangerous and what place I got to,” she explained.
We’re happy to hear that the Duchess received much-needed treatment for her eating disorder and is now fully enjoying her recovery.
Bulimia is a serious eating disorder that is characterized by behaviors including binge eating (consuming large amounts of food in a short period of time) and purging (eliminating the food eaten by any one of a number of methods).
Bulimia can have serious negative and long-lasting health effects, but thankfully, effective treatment for bulimia
is available and full recovery is attainable.
