8 Eating Recovery Advocates Share the Best Advice They Never Received - Robyn Cruze

By Robyn Cruze

Jenni Schaefer, Eating Recovery Center advocate, leads a blog round-up discussing eating disorder recovery in honor of Eating Recovery Day: May 3rd, 2016.

Eating Recovery Day is just a few days away — on Tuesday, May 3. Yippee!

But honestly, we just couldn’t wait another week to start celebrating.

We asked our very own Jenni Schaefer to round up a bunch of her blogger friends to each write a specially-themed blog post — as we lead up to Eating Recovery Day next week.

Bloggers will come together to answer the same question:

"If you could go back and talk to yourself at the beginning of your recovery journey, what would your wiser self say to your younger self?"

That's super cool, right?

So, here's how it works: Each day, we'll highlight each of the bloggers on Facebook and provide you a link to their post.

Day 1, Monday, April 25th — Karla Mosley is a NEDA Ambassador who speaks out about her recovery from an eating disorder. She's also an actress on the TV show The Bold and the Beautiful. Karla will be writing on the NEDA blog.

Day 2, Tuesday, April 26th — Brian Cuban is an authority on body dysmorphic disorder, male eating disorders, and addiction. He is the author of Shattered Image as well as the upcoming book The Addicted Lawyer.

Day 3, Wednesday, April 27th — Nikki DuBose is Volunteer Director of Project HEAL's Southern California chapter. In her writing and speaking engagement, Nikki talks about her experience of overcoming trauma and an eating disorder. Her upcoming memoir is titled Washed Away: From Darkness to Light. Nikki will post a blog on Project Heal’s blog.

Day 4, Thursday, April 28th — Jenni Schaefer is our very own National Recovery Advocate at ERC's Family Institute. She is also Chair of NEDA's Ambassadors Council and has authored the books Life Without Ed, Almost Anorexic, and Goodbye Ed, Hello Me. Jenni Schaefer will post on her blog.

Day 5, Friday, April 29th — Lynn Chen is an NEDA Ambassador, entertainer, and activist. Lynn writes and speaks out about her recovery from binge eating and anorexia. On Friday, she will post a podcast with her co-founder Lisa Lee on their body image site Thick Dumpling Skin.

Day 6, Saturday, April 30th — Megan Bartlett speaks out about her recovery from binge eating disorder. Her book is Getting Out of B.E.D.: Overcoming Binge Eating Disorder One Day at a TimeClick here to check out Megan's blog.

Day 7, Sunday, May 1st —Nancy is the mom of an eating disorder sufferer. Through her advocacy work, Nancy raises awareness of eating disorders and provides support to families, including through her blog, Let’s Get Well Together.

Day 8, Monday, May 2nd — We will be sharing a touching true story here on the Eating Recovery Center blog as a parent of a child who is recovering from an eating disorder shares her experiences, wisdom, gratitude and love.

All of us are driven by empathy and passion. We’re very excited to give you the opportunity to hear from other people in the recovery community who have trudged the road to recovery and can share with you what helped them the most.

We are so proud to be part of an amazing community filled with patients, caregivers, and professionals who are committed to helping patients and their family's recover from such a painful illness. We can't wait to get their perspective and learn from their words of wisdom. Most importantly, we hope to inspire you and let you know that you are not alone.

Be sure to mark your calendars as we come together to celebrate recovery and inspire hope for those who are bravely traveling along their own path to recovery. It will be a lovely day that brings together patients, families and professionals from across the nation.

And we hope that this week, as you read the blog posts from this diverse group of writers, you’ll discover other bloggers who inspire you — and that you will become part of their readership, as well. We are all in this together, my friends.

(And a huge thank you to Jenni for coordinating this amazing blogger roundup!)
