Eating Recovery Center Promotes Dr. Ovidio Bermudez to Chief Medical Officer

Renowned Expert Assumes New Role to Support Growth of Denver-based Eating Disorders Treatment Center.

Spurred by organizational growth, Eating Recovery Center, an international center for eating disorders recovery, has promoted Ovidio Bermudez, MD, FAAP, FSAHM, FAED, CEDS, to the position of chief medical officer. Dr. Bermudez, a respected eating disorders expert who joined the treatment center’s medical staff in 2010, will serve the dual role of chief medical officer and medical director of child and adolescent services. “As an organization with nine full-time physicians caring for our patients, Eating Recovery Center has grown to the point where we need a leader to provide ongoing mentoring and support to our medical team,” said Ken Weiner, MD, FAED, CEDS, founding partner and chief executive officer of Eating Recovery Center. “I cannot think of anyone more suited for that role than Dr. Bermudez, a committed clinician and nationally recognized thought leader in the field of eating disorders treatment.” In his new role, Dr. Bermudez will provide leadership and support to the team of physicians who guide Eating Recovery Center’s adult and child and adolescent eating disorders programs, including psychiatrists, internists, pediatricians and adolescent medicine specialists. He will also continue to oversee the delivery of medically supervised treatment to boys and girls ages 10 though 17 as medical director of Eating Recovery Center’s Child and Adolescent Services. Board-certified in pediatrics and adolescent medicine, Dr. Bermudez has long been recognized for his contributions to the field of eating disorders treatment. He holds academic appointments as clinical professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and as clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is a fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders, the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is past chairman and current member of the board of directors of the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), co-founder of the Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee (EDCT) and co-founder of the Oklahoma Eating Disorders Association (OEDA). He co-chairs the Medical Care Task Force of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED). He is a member of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp) and earned its Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) designation. Dr. Bermudez has lectured nationally and internationally on eating disorders, childhood obesity and other topics related to pediatric and adult healthcare, and regularly contributes insights about eating disorders awareness and treatment to both local and national media outlets. Since opening its doors in 2008, Eating Recovery Center has expanded several times to meet increasing demand for its services. In less than four years, Eating Recovery Center has grown its Denver-based operations from a single behavioral hospital treating adults with eating disorders to a network of four treatment facilities offering inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization and outpatient levels of care for adults, adolescents and children.
