The frenetic pace of the holiday hustle and bustle and increased emphasis on food-centric gatherings can lead to heightened stress, and in severe cases, eating disorders relapse. To create a healthy, happy holiday season, take proactive steps to plan for recovery-focused holiday celebrations.

Many Americans make New Year’s resolutions to lose weight each year.  Though these dieting individuals may have healthy intentions, they could be putting themselves at risk for an eating disorder. “For individuals with a genetic predisposition for an eating disorder, a diet can quickly spiral out of control and trigger disordered eating,” said Kenneth L. Weiner, MD, CEDS, co-founder and medical director of Eating Recovery Center.  “It’s important for families to be aware of eating disorder warning signs and step in when they believe their loved one has a problem.”
