Many people who do not know much about eating disorders are shocked to hear that people with eating disorders have the highest mortality rate among all mental illnesses. They may be equally shocked to learn that the reason that eating disorders have such a high death rate is because many of those who suffer with eating disorders end up taking their own lives.

For those of us who have lived with an eating disorder, this news will probably not be such a huge shock. For those who are not as familiar, here are some additional facts about the link between eating disorders and suicide.

ERC, The Woodlands is pleased to announce that it has expanded programming for patients ages 12 and over in the greater Houston area. “ERC, The Woodlands was developed with the idea of providing compassionate, evidence-based eating disorder treatment with the small-town feel of personalized care,” explains Deborah Michel, PhD, CEDS, Founder and Clinical Director of ERC, The Woodlands. “While our treatment options are now more extensive and delivered in a brand new, state-of-the-art treatment center, the foundations of community connection, strong relationships with patients and families as well as collaboration with outpatient providers are evident in everything we do."
