This presentation will address how to identify, treat and support students with eating disorders on a college campus. Clinical vignettes will be presented to highlight common presentations that should raise suspicion of eating disorders in patients who do not disclose their struggle with food, body image or exercise. Discussion will include a review of practical ways in which medical office staff can provide a therapeutic environment for recovery as well as common pitfalls which can trigger symptoms in patients who struggle with eating disorders. The presentation will review the most common medical complications of anorexia nervosa and bulimia and the most effective treatment methods. Finally, the presenter will explain how to identify when a patient needs a higher level of care and how to reduce barriers for patients to pursue this care.
