Gender Dysphoria and Eating Disorders: Understanding and Improving Care for Transgender Individuals with Eating Disorders

This presentation will discuss therapeutic implications when working with transgender clients who struggle with eating disorders. Participants will learn how to screen for gender dysphoria in patients with eating disorders and will explore strategies that can help delineate if a client’s gender identity influences their eating disorder. Clinical interventions that can help with self-acceptance, body image concerns and eating disorder symptoms will be presented. Medical options for pubertal suppression and transitioning will also be reviewed.
