Who We Treat

Conditions We Treat

  • Eating Disorders

An eating disorder is a treatable mental illness that includes a number of different symptoms, including extreme emotions, attitudes, and behaviors surrounding weight and food issues.

  • Anorexia

Anorexia nervosa is characterized by an obsessive fear of weight gain and a refusal to maintain a healthy body weight.

  • Atypical Anorexia

You can’t tell if someone has an eating disorder just by looking at them. See how atypical anorexia affects people in a variety of body shapes and sizes.

  • ARFID

ARFID is a lesser known eating disorder that frequently begins as early as infancy or childhood, but adults can also suffer.

  • Binge Eating Disorder

Binge eating disorder is characterized by frequent overeating – at least once a week for three months – combined with a lack of control, intense feelings of distress and several other characteristic behaviors.

  • Bulimia

Bulimia is characterized by patterns of bingeing and purging.

  • Compulsive Overeating

Compulsive overeating can involve binge eating and weight gain, but it can also involve other behaviors.

  • Diabulimia

The term diabulimia is used to describe the diagnosis of an eating disorder in an individual with type 1 diabetes. These patients intentionally misuse insulin for weight control.

  • OSFED

Some eating disorders do not meet all of the diagnostic criteria for specific diagnoses like anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.

  • Orthorexia

Some people go to extremes to “eat clean” at all times. This may lead to a disordered eating pattern known as orthorexia.

Levels of Care Offered

  • Inpatient

Our Inpatient programming is designed to support adults, children and adolescents of all genders who are acutely ill and are experiencing medical and mood instability as a result of their eating disorder.

  • Residential

Within ERC Pathlight's step-down model of care, the Residential eating disorder treatment program as well as the Residential mood & anxiety treatment program offer medically stable patients a highly-structured and supportive 24-hour treatment environment.

  • Partial Hospitalization

Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers some of the same intensity and structure of Residential mood, anxiety, and eating disorder treatment while providing additional opportunities to practice recovery outside of the controlled eating disorder treatment environment during evenings at home or in peer-supported apartment communities.

  • On-Site Intensive Outpatient Treatment

Our Intensive Outpatient program is a flexible mood, anxiety, and eating disorder treatment program that allows patients to work, go to school, or care for children during the day and sleep at home at night.

  • Virtual Intensive Outpatient - Eating Recovery At Home

ERC is removing the barriers that can keep patients with anorexia, bulimia, and other eating disorders from receiving treatment. Through telebehavioral health programming, Eating Recovery At Home (our virtual Intensive Outpatient Program) offers the same proven care as our in-person treatment centers.

Get the right support at the right time

At ERC Bellevue, you’ll work with the same highly experienced therapist and psychiatrist in our residential and partial hospitalization program (PHP) programs. These individuals will be by your side when you step down to an intensive outpatient program or outpatient care. Find your way to recovery with help from your:

  • Primary therapist
  • Registered Dietitian
  • Primary care physician
  • Psychiatrist
  • Nursing staff

Find long-lasting recovery in our 7-day PHP

Research shows that eating disorder patients in 5-day (weekday-only) programming struggle with eating disorder behaviors over the weekend. Since eating disorders don’t take the weekend off, we don’t either. We provide programming 7 days a week for individuals in residential and PHP levels of care, because it offers you the best chance of recovery.

Nutrition Services

Our Nutrition Approach

Eating disorders are uniquely challenging since you can’t recover from an eating disorder without food. ERC Bellevue provides a teaching kitchen and regular lunch outings to expose you or your loved one to new foods and a chance to practice new skills. Patients find our nutrition education groups both interesting and informative. Most importantly, our supportive nutrition and structured meal planning can help you find peace with food – with a focus on balance, variety and flexibility.

Based on extensive training and experience, the clinical team at ERC Bellevue is also well-versed in the treatment of binge eating disorder. All staff are highly equipped to understand this condition’s specific and sometimes nuanced nutritional needs, body image experiences and different exposure work.

Traveling for care? We can help

Most patients seeking care at ERC Bellevue travel from out of state for treatment. We strongly believe that transportation issues should not prevent you or your loved one from finding quality care. Our team does everything we can to remove all barriers to treatment. For out-of-town patients and their caregivers, we offer free nationwide travel concierge services and can assist with a range of needs before and during treatment, including:

  • Uber vouchers or travel assistance to help you get to and from treatment
  • Housing assistance
  • Help with local services including shopping, dining and more

Housing assistance provided

Wondering where to stay during treatment? ERC apartment housing is just down the street from Bellevue Square and Lincoln Square shopping.

  • We can help you and your loved ones find housing options nearby, with off-site apartments available for patients in our PHP day program.
  • We can also provide housing near the treatment center for caregivers of our younger patients.

Patients focus on treatment during the day and return to apartments at night to practice and integrate new skills. When staying at our apartments, we provide transportation assistance to and from treatment. We can also help with Uber vouchers for the grocery store, outpatient appointments and more.

Effective care for children and teens

Learn new skills in family-based treatment

Eating disorders affect the entire family network. Family involvement in treatment is essential and can be lifesaving.

  • Our child and adolescent treatment program is informed by family-based treatment (FBT) and emotion-focused family therapy (EFFT), gold standards for eating disorder treatment for young people.
  • Caregivers can enjoy on-site visits with younger patients in our residential program.
  • Apartments conveniently located near the center offer families the necessary accommodation and resources so they can stay close to their loved one while they are engaged in PHP.

Find ongoing support for the entire family

We make sure that each caregiver is equipped and empowered to support their loved one once they return home. Caregivers are deeply involved in treatment in a number of ways:

Stay up-to-date with school

Keeping up with schoolwork is an understandable concern for young patients and their caregivers. Our primary focus will be on eating disorder recovery, and we do everything we can to help young patients stay on top of school assignments while in treatment. With designated time for schoolwork in our residential and PHP levels of care, ERC Bellevue has two education specialists on staff: one certified teacher and one tutor. These professionals communicate regularly with schools and can support 504 and IEP plans. Our compassionate team members continuously work together to prevent disruption to your child’s education.
