Our national virtual treatment taskforce is being led by two of the nation’s leading experts in telebehaviorial health: 

Karen Schneller, LMFT, CEDS, BC-TMH - Clinical Director of
Virtual Outpatient Programs

Karen Schneller, LMFT, CEDS, is the Clinical Director of Telebehavioral Health for Eating Recovery Center.   Karen Schneller is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist in the state of California and Texas and Ohio.  Additionally, she is Board Certified in TeleMental Health (BC-TMH) which is an advanced certification in the laws and ethics of delivering therapeutic services via web-based platforms.  In her current role as the Clinical Director of Telebehavioral Health she leads the Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (VIOP) team in delivering ERC’s proven IOP programming and curriculum in a virtual format to patients in Texas and California and Ohio.  Ms. Schneller is excited to be on the forefront of expanding access through telebehavioral health to connect with patients in areas where specialized services may not be available.  She is thrilled to share with others how telebehavioral health can reach those who may not seek treatment otherwise, due to distance or other factors.  Ms. Schneller has been working in the field of eating disorders since 2003 and has experience in all levels of care.  Karen’s has served on the Board for the Orange County, Ca Chapter of iaedp from 2011-2013 and currently is the Secretary on the board for EDRS, Inc since 2015.  Her passion is to make treatment available to everyone and volunteering through EDRS allows her to participate in awarding outpatient scholarships to people in California who are in need.

Casey Tallent, PhD - Director of Collegiate and Telebehavioral Health Initiatives

Casey N. Tallent, Ph.D. is the Director of Collegiate & Telebehavioral Health Initiatives for Eating Recovery Center and its partner programs. Dr. Tallent co-founded ERC’s virtual IOP program in 2017 and has been instrumental in expanding those services nationwide while also developing ERC’s virtual PhP program in response to the current pandemic. In addition to her virtual work, Dr. Tallent conducts trainings for universities and schools across the nation on improving eating disorders treatment services on campus. She has helped many colleges and school districts establish eating disorders treatment teams, guidelines, and response plans. Dr. Tallent is the co-founder of the Nebraska Eating Disorders Network, a non-profit organization focused on providing eating disorders resources to professionals, clients, and families in Nebraska. Before joining Eating Recovery Center, Dr. Tallent was a staff psychologist and Eating Disorders Treatment Team Coordinator at University of Nebraska – Lincoln’s Counseling and Psychological Services. During her tenure at University of Nebraska, she provided counseling to students, coordinated the university’s multidisciplinary eating disorders treatment team, advised student groups, and served as faculty in the graduate counseling psychology program. Dr. Tallent received her BA and Masters in Counseling from University of Missouri-Kansas City, and her PhD in Counseling Psychology from University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
