Laurie Mitan, MD, FAAP

Professor of Pediatrics Director, Eating Disorder Program Division of Adolescent and Transition Medicine

I was inspired to specialize in the field of eating disorders when first exposed to it during my psychiatry rotation in medical school. I am certified by the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals as a certified eating disorder specialist (CEDS).

In my practice, I design treatment plans to be family-centered and supportive. I have cared for families affected by eating disorders since 1993 and have been director of the Eating Disorder Program at Cincinnati Children’s since 2008. I am also interested in the gynecologic concerns of adolescents and the psychosocial effects of complex medical illnesses.

I provide eating disorder consultative services to community physicians and families at the Cincinnati Children's Outpatient Services Liberty Campus. At the Cincinnati Children's main campus, I offer primary care services in a teaching clinic as faculty in the Division of Adolescent and Transition Medicine's Teen Health Center.

In my clinical research, I work collaboratively with mental health providers to improve the understanding and treatment of restrictive eating disorders. I enjoy teaching pediatric staff and medical students and have spent a significant amount of my career giving lectures and presentations.
