Evelyn Gurule, MD, PhD

Psychiatrist

She/Her/Hers

Dr. Evelyn Gurule is a board-certified psychiatrist with a deep commitment to compassionate, individualized mental health care. Originally born in Oklahoma and raised in the suburbs of Denver, Dr. Gurule brings both personal and professional depth to her practice. With roots that extend to Hong Kong through her mother, she values cultural awareness in her work and appreciates the complexity of each patient’s life story. Her educational journey has taken her across the country and through both the sciences and clinical medicine, culminating in her current role at our Denver Willow/Conifer location.

Dr. Gurule completed her medical training at Johns Hopkins, where she also served as chief resident in psychiatry. Prior to medical school, she earned a PhD in Pharmacology, focusing on basic science research. It was during this time that she discovered her passion for direct patient care—motivating her to pursue a medical degree and shift her focus to clinical psychiatry. Today, her practice reflects that dual background: a solid foundation in scientific inquiry paired with a deep empathy for the individual experiences of her patients.

With experience across inpatient, partial hospital, and outpatient treatment settings, Dr. Gurule particularly values the transformative process that occurs during recovery from eating disorders. She finds this work profoundly rewarding, as patients face and overcome fears that have impacted both their physical health and social well-being. Her approach is highly personalized, taking into account each patient’s unique combination of life circumstances, psychiatric diagnoses, and personality traits to build a path toward meaningful, sustainable recovery.

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Gurule is an avid textile enthusiast, with a passion for crocheting, cross stitch, and the occasional sewing project. She also enjoys hiking, swing and contra dancing (when she can manage the rare evening out), and spending time with her young family. With three children under five and a steady rotation of audiobooks during her commute, she balances a full personal life with the same thoughtful dedication she brings to her patients.
