The first intro call I had with an eating disorder treatment center was one of my proudest moments in recovery. I started treatment a few weeks after that call, which was a pivotal step for my recovery.

Eating Disorder Admissions Criteria
ERC’s admission criteria and level of care guidelines were developed using research data, consultation of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), and the clinical expertise of ERC’s executive leadership, including our Chief Clinical and Quality Officer Anne Marie O'Melia, MS, MD, FAAP, CEDS-C.
Treatment recommendations are developed based on these admissions criteria and level of care guidelines, as well as the assessment completed, consultation with outpatient providers, and individual/family circumstances and needs. Our admissions team includes medical and clinical staff to provide the most appropriate recommendation.
Questions?
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do admission assessments take?
Admission assessments typically take 30–60 minutes. Our response team will help you schedule a time that works best for you.
Assessments are completed over the phone to make the process flexible and accessible.
When you first call us, we’ll simply gather some basic information and schedule your assessment. This initial call is different from the full assessment and usually takes 10–15 minutes.
How long do I have to decide if I want to move forward with care?
We understand that making this decision can take time, and we try to remain flexible—especially if there is a waitlist for the recommended program.
If there is a delay between your initial treatment recommendation and your start date, we may complete a brief reassessment to make sure the original recommendation is still the best fit. This is because symptoms can change quickly, and those shifts may impact what level of care is safest and most effective.
Deciding to move forward with treatment is a big step and can be difficult. We are here for you and will help you navigate and understand the process.
How much involvement will my support system (family/friends) have in the admissions process?
For adults (18+):
Your level of support is entirely your choice. We don't share medical information without your permission. If you’d like family or friends involved, you can sign a release form specifying what you’re comfortable sharing.
You’re welcome to have a support person join part or all of your assessment call. Many adults also find it helpful to bring someone with them on their admission day.

For individuals under 18:
We strongly encourage family involvement throughout admissions and treatment, as caregivers play a crucial role in recovery.
State laws about parental or guardian consent differ, but in many cases, a parent or conservator/guardian must give permission before counseling or psychiatric treatment can begin.
Am I required to stay in treatment for a certain amount of time?
There is no required length of stay at any level of care at Eating Recovery Center. Every treatment plan is individualized to meet each patient’s unique needs.
However, based on clinical experience and outcomes, we recommend a minimum of four weeks in treatment to build a strong foundation for recovery.
What if my insurance isn't listed?
You may still be able to use your benefits. We can often request a single case agreement with your provider to help you access care. Contact us to check your options.
