Supporting a young adult through eating disorder, mood, anxiety, or trauma-related recovery can be difficult. It can be tricky for caregivers to find the right balance between stepping in to help and allowing their young adult loved one to learn to navigate independently. This session will provide a practical guide to help you better understand when to step in, when to foster autonomy, and tools to communicate effectively in both situations.
Caregivers will take away:
A deeper understanding of what happens when mental health needs and the developmental changes of emerging adulthood collide
Tips for finding the right balance between stepping in and stepping back
Simple ways to communicate, supporting both emotional and behavioral needs, and setting compassionate limits when necessary
Practical examples that feel familiar and easy to relate to
Resources and tools to empower you as you support your loved one
Presented by
Beth Ayn Stansfield, National Family Advocate and
Dr. Stephanie Setliff, Regional Medical Director.
