This presentation explores how caregivers can provide emotion-focused support to loved ones experiencing heightened stress during the holiday season. Grounded in the stress response cycle and principles from Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), the session outlines how emotional overwhelm impacts brain functioning, why individuals become “stuck” in stress, and how intentional co-regulation helps restore safety and connection. Through practical strategies—including emotion coaching, validation techniques, and coping-ahead planning—participants will learn how to strengthen emotional resilience, deepen connection, and reduce caregiving barriers that interfere with supportive engagement.
The target audience for this continuing education program is mental health providers and clinicians working with individuals with mental health diagnoses. Materials are appropriate for learners with an introductory level of understanding about mental health concerns.
