This presentation is a general overview of psychopharmacologic interventions for mood and anxiety disorders. Discussion will include basic pharmacology of mood and anxiety medications and defining the role of psychotherapists within the multidisciplinary team, working to treat mood and anxiety disorders with psychiatrists.
The target audience for this continuing education program is mental health providers and clinicians working with individuals with mental health diagnoses. Materials are appropriate for learners with an introductory level of understanding about mental health concerns.
Educational Objectives
- Describe the potential benefit of referring patients with mood and anxiety disorders for psychopharmacologic treatment and collaborating with physicians and other prescribers with shared treatment goals.
- Identify medical illnesses that can look like mental health issues and medications that can exacerbate or cause mental health symptoms
- Discuss the most common risks and benefits for the most common medications used in the management of Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia
