Recognizing an eating disorder early can dramatically improve a student's recovery outcome. School staff, teachers, and coaches are often in a unique position to notice the subtle behavioral, emotional, and physical shifts before anyone else. For adolescents recovering from—or vulnerable to—an eating disorder, the transition back to school can be especially challenging. Lunch periods, busy schedules, social comparison, sports, and comments about appearance can all increase stress. This presentation equips professionals with practical tools to identify, support, and appropriately refer students experiencing eating disorders . Participants will learn about early identification of eating disorders, knowing what to look for, and understanding how to connect a struggling student with the right school resources.
The target audience for this continuing education program is mental health providers and clinicians working with individuals with mental health diagnoses. Materials are appropriate for learners with an introductory level of understanding about mental health concerns.
Educational Objectives
Following this presentation, participants will be able to:
Identify three risk factors for the development of an eating disorder.
List three warning signs that may indicate an eating disorder.
Describe two methods used to screen for eating disorders.

Social workers completing this course receive 6 clinical continuing education credit.
Completion of this RD/DTR profession-specific or IPCE awards CPEUs (One IPCE credit + One CPEU). If the activity is dietetics-related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which commensurate with participation in contact hours (One 60-minute hour = 1 CPEU). RDs and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their Activity Log. Sphere and Competency selection is at the learner’s discretion. Attendees who complete this course are eligible for 1 CPEU.
