1. What is your role at Eating Recovery Center of WA? (also mention how long you’ve worked for ERCWA and the different roles you’ve had!)

I am currently the medical director and previously worked as the associate medical director.  I’ve been with the organization for 2 ½ years

2. What inspired you to become involved in the treatment of eating disorders?

had a mentor during my residency who was a phenomenal psychiatrist and had such a great way of connecting with patients.  She was the type of psychiatrist that I aspired to be, and she also worked with eating disorder patients.  She shared her passion with me and got me started in my passion as well.

3. What is your favorite or most rewarding part of your job?

Seeing the progress that each individual patient is capable of making

4. What is the most challenging part of your job?

Maintaining a sense of calmness when dealing with such chaos that eating disorders can create

5. What is one piece of advice you would give to individuals in recovery?

First, congratulations for all of your hard work.  Secondly, maintenance of the mindfulness that recovery demands is so important

6. What do you feel Eating Recovery Center of WA offers to support “lasting recovery”?

The alumni group is an amazing resource!

7. Tell us about PHP/IOP. How do you feel PHP/IOP is beneficial in eating disorder recovery, and life after treatment?

PHP is a great way to really interrupt behaviors and help establish a structure for recovery, and IOP helps to foster that continued development and growth while also allowing for re-connection to one’s life.  It is so incredible that we have these programs to offer and help fill in the gaps for someone when they may not be able to do so for themselves.  These programs also help to lay the foundation upon which one can build the life they want for themselves.
