Kaitlin Slaven, MD, is a psychiatrist working in our Bethesda, Maryland location, where she provides compassionate care to patients in the PHP setting. With extensive experience in various treatment environments, including inpatient, residential, PHP, and IOP care, Dr. Slaven specializes in treating eating disorders and has a particular interest in trauma, borderline personality disorder, and perinatal mental health. She is passionate about building strong, meaningful connections with her patients and takes great joy in understanding their individual needs. Additionally, Dr. Slaven frequently lectures medical students, residents, and healthcare professionals to raise awareness about eating disorders and mental health.
Dr. Slaven earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Iowa State University and went on to medical school at the University of Iowa. She completed her psychiatry residency at George Washington University, where she served as Chief Resident, and later pursued a fellowship in Eating Disorders at the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt. Her academic achievements include graduating magna cum laude and receiving the Resident Professionalism Award. Dr. Slaven has also contributed to various research projects, particularly in women’s mental health and the intersection of physical and psychological well-being.
Outside of her clinical work, Dr. Slaven is a dedicated runner, having completed two marathons and numerous half marathons. She is also a certified yoga instructor and enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, and exploring new restaurants. With a well-rounded approach to both her professional and personal life, Dr. Slaven is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care to her patients.
