Vollie McKenzie

Vollie McKenzie is a retired community mental health counselor, living in Asheville NC. Born in 1950 he grew up in a mill village in the small town of Winnsboro, SC. He grew up surrounded by a loving family, church, close neighbors and dogs. Music was an early and constant influence in his life. He remembers his first good guitar, a college graduation gift from his parents and recalls practicing for weeks to learn ‘Fire & Rain’ by James Taylor. Later he became interested in more traditional folk, bluegrass and country music which morphed into a love for Jazz, British Invasion Pop Rock as well as an enthusiasm for writing his own songs. Vollie has his own lived experience with anxiety, depression and body dysmorphia. His personal growth and relationships serve as a reminder for him to stay open minded and open hearted.
