“What makes this center so unique is it really does feel like a family here. There’s a huge emphasis on family: not solely with patients, but with our clinical team. Because we are a family, we know how to treat patients and families with a lot of dignity, respect, and care.”
Who We Treat
Children & Adolescents
We can help guide you and your child on a path to long-lasting change and healing.
We provide eating disorder treatment and mood and anxiety disorder treatment for all genders ages 18 and older.
Conditions We Treat
An eating disorder is a treatable mental illness that includes a number of different symptoms, including extreme emotions, attitudes, and behaviors surrounding weight and food issues.
Anorexia nervosa is characterized by an obsessive fear of weight gain and a refusal to maintain a healthy body weight.
You can’t tell if someone has an eating disorder just by looking at them. See how atypical anorexia affects people in a variety of body shapes and sizes.
ARFID is a lesser known eating disorder that frequently begins as early as infancy or childhood, but adults can also suffer.
Binge Eating Disorder
Binge eating disorder is characterized by frequent overeating – at least once a week for three months – combined with a lack of control, intense feelings of distress and several other characteristic behaviors.
Bulimia is characterized by patterns of bingeing and purging.
Compulsive overeating can involve binge eating and weight gain, but it can also involve other behaviors.
The term diabulimia is used to describe the diagnosis of an eating disorder in an individual with type 1 diabetes. These patients intentionally misuse insulin for weight control.
Some eating disorders do not meet all of the diagnostic criteria for specific diagnoses like anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.
Some people go to extremes to “eat clean” at all times. This may lead to a disordered eating pattern known as orthorexia.
Levels of Care Offered
Our Inpatient programming is designed to support adults, children and adolescents of all genders who are acutely ill and are experiencing medical and mood instability as a result of their eating disorder.
Within ERC Pathlight's step-down model of care, the Residential eating disorder treatment program as well as the Residential mood & anxiety treatment program offer medically stable patients a highly-structured and supportive 24-hour treatment environment.
Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers some of the same intensity and structure of Residential mood, anxiety, and eating disorder treatment while providing additional opportunities to practice recovery outside of the controlled eating disorder treatment environment during evenings at home or in peer-supported apartment communities.
On-Site Intensive Outpatient Treatment
Our Intensive Outpatient program is a flexible mood, anxiety, and eating disorder treatment program that allows patients to work, go to school, or care for children during the day and sleep at home at night.
Virtual Intensive Outpatient - Eating Recovery At Home
ERC is removing the barriers that can keep patients with anorexia, bulimia, and other eating disorders from receiving treatment. Through telebehavioral health programming, Eating Recovery At Home (our virtual Intensive Outpatient Program) offers the same proven care as our in-person treatment centers.
Benefit From Expert Eating Disorder Care
At ERC San Antonio, our patients and families work with the same multidisciplinary team throughout treatment. These individuals will be by your side until you step down to either our intensive outpatient program or outpatient care. All team members at ERC San Antonio are highly trained, understand the challenges of eating disorders recovery and actively engage you in the treatment process. Clinicians are well-versed in the full spectrum of eating disorders and understand the nuances and complexities of treatment. Our treatment team includes the following:
- Primary therapist
- Registered dietitian
- Primary care physician
- Nursing staff
- Alumni support
Find Recovery With Our 7-Day PHP
Research shows that eating disorder patients in 5-day, weekday-only programming struggle with eating disorder behaviors over the weekend. Since eating disorders don’t take the weekend off, neither do we. We provide programming 7 days a week for individuals in our partial hospitalization level of care, offering you the best chance of recovery.
Nutritional Counseling & Education
ERC San Antonio focuses on helping patients achieve a peaceful relationship with food, body and mind. Part of our nutrition approach includes weight-inclusive eating disorder treatment: understanding that everything should be individualized per patient and recognizing the inherent diversity in human bodies. Our center offers the following:
- A spacious, state-of-the-art teaching kitchen that supports hands-on culinary education, cooking groups and exposure therapies
- Nutrition counseling and education groups that provide professional and peer support on a variety of topics, including meal and menu planning
- A garden for patients that allows them to work on growing their own ingredients, learning how to put a meal together and eating what they cook with others
- Grocery store visits, cooking classes and other food-related activities: all of which are supported by a registered dietitian and integrative interventions

To help patients and their loved ones focus on treatment rather than travel logistics, ERC San Antonio offers apartments near the treatment center. These spaces are fully furnished to create a comfortable, home-like atmosphere in which patients can relax, unwind and practice recovery skills following the structured treatment day. Apartments are available for:
- Female and male adults who would need to travel long distances for treatment

We will do everything we can to remove barriers to help you get access to treatment. For our out-of-town patients and families, we offer free nationwide travel concierge services. Frequently Asked Questions
Where do most of your patients come from?
While many patients are from San Antonio or outlying areas, it is not atypical for patients to sometimes travel from other states. Patients often travel from Corpus Christi and the Rio Grande Valley, which often lack these types of resources and levels of care.
What does the treatment team look like in IOP?
While IOP is a much less intensive level of care, one of the main differentiators is that the treatment team does not offer psychiatry. However, these groups and individual sessions will still include a primary therapist, registered dietitian, and a network of alumni and community support.
Do you work with other providers or community organizations?
ERC San Antonio works very closely with outpatient providers and outpatient community organizations. The clinical team is consistently presenting and co-hosting events with other providers, including NAMI and IAEDP. The doors are always open for other providers that offer different and similar services to promote increased accessibility to care and comprehensive education.
